A method for increasing the efficiency of additive drag reduction by establishing a drag-reducing viscoelastic coating on a surface. The method includes mixing a polymer into a concentrated solution that has approximately the same density as a fluid flowing over the surface, ejecting the mixture/solution into the flowing fluid in a manner such that a coating of polymer, which initially grows thicker with time, is adsorbed onto the surface, and reducing the ejection rate of the first fluid such that the coating of polymer then grows thinner with time. These steps may be repeated so that a desired minimum coating thickness is maintained over an extended period of time. The method reduces the polymer expenditure rate for a given drag reduction. Moreover, the produced viscoelastic coating impedes the attachment and growth of drag-producing natural organisms and may be applied without 'down-time' (e.g., while underway).
L'invention concerne un procédé pour augmenter l'efficacité d'une réduction de traînée supplémentaire par établissement d'un revêtement viscoélastique réduisant une traînée sur une surface. Le procédé consiste à : mélanger un polymère dans une solution concentrée présentant approximativement la même densité qu'un fluide s'écoulant sur la surface; éjecter le mélange/solution dans le fluide s'écoulant de manière telle qu'un revêtement de polymère, qui initialement s'épaissit au cours du temps, est adsorbé sur la surface; et à réduire la vitesse d'éjection du premier fluide de sorte que le revêtement de polymère devienne ensuite plus fin au cours du temps. Ces étapes peuvent être répétées de sorte qu'une épaisseur de revêtement minimale désirée est maintenue pendant une durée prolongée. Le procédé permet de réduire la vitesse de dépense de polymère pour une réduction de traînée donnée. De plus, le revêtement viscoélastique produit empêche la fixation et la croissance d'organismes naturels produisant une traînée et peut s'appliquer sans temps d'arrêt (par exemple, en marche).
