A pharmaceutical composition to inhibit the development of intimal hyperplasia following vascular (angioplasty) is disclosed. The pharmaceutical composition contains green porphyrin and is administered to the subject concurrent with and following the angioplasty. No purposeful irradiation with light absorbed by the green porphyrin is required or employed with the composition.
