ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process to prevent steam-channeling into bottom water sands where a horizontal-well is utilized. The horizontal well is drilled into the top portion of the formation. This well is cyclically steamed until fluid communication is established between an injector and a producer well. Sufficient steam is injected so as to heat a desired oil containing area around the horizontal well. Thereafter, steam injection is initiated into said area while avoiding steam channeling into the bottom water sand.
