The present invention provides a method to treat a rhodium-containing solution obtained by the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrile rubber by adding an additive selected from thiourea, polysaccharide and activated carbon to form a rhodium-containing precipitate which is then separated from the solution by, for example, filtration or centrifugation to yield a hydrogenated nitrile rubber solution containing a reduced level of rhodium .
