ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Methods of and apparatus for controlling the gap between a mandrel and an extrusion die during extrusion wherein upon the actual gap between the mandrel and die during extrusion being detected as being larger than a predetermined gap, relative movement between the mandrel and die is produced to close the actual gap and establish the predetermined gap, and upon the actual gap between the mandrel and die during extrusion being detected as being smaller than the predetermined gap, relative movement between the mandrel and die is produced to open the actual gap and establish the predetermined gap.
