The present invention relates to an aerosol flow control apparatus and a method of using same. The apparatus has a housing including a conduit, a medication dispenser, a plurality of air inlets and a plurality of vortex generators. The conduit has an open end adapted to be inserted into the mouth of a user, a substantially closed end remote from the open end, and an inner wall extending longitudinally between the open and closed ends. The medication dispenser is supported in the housing and adapted to dispense a dose of aerosolized medication into the conduit. The plurality of air inlets are formed through the substantially closed end of the conduit adjacent the inner wall. The plurality of vortex generators are mounted on the inner wall downstream of the air inlets. An inspiratory effort exerted on the open end of the conduit causes air to be drawn through the air inlets and over the vortex generators, thereby establishing a turbulent boundary layer flow along the inner wall of the conduit to reduce impaction and sticking of medication thereon.
