A method for the electrochemical deter- mination of the reducing sugars content of an aqueous solution in a thin layer electrochem- ical measuring device, preferably a capillary fill device, wherein an inner surface of the device is coated with a soluble redox medi- ator, the device including means for producing an alkaline environment within the device. In a preferred method the redox mediator com- prises potassium ferricyanide providing ferri- cyanide ions in saturated solution and lithium hydroxide providing hydroxide ions in an ex- cess amount of from 1 to 3 molar. The inven- tion also provides a capillary fill device having a guard electrode between the reference and working electrodes.

Un procédé permet la détermination électrochimique de la teneur en sucres réducteurs d'une solution aqueuse avec un dispositif de mesure électrochimique à couches minces, de préférence un dispositif à remplissage capillaire dont une surface interne est recouverte d'un médiateur redox soluble, ce dispositif comportant un système permettant d'y produire un environnement alcalin. Dans une variante préférée de ce procédé, ce médiateur redox comprend un ferricyanure de potassium qui fournit des ions ferricyanure en solution saturée, et de l'hydroxyde de lithium fournissant des ions hydroxyde en quantité excédentaire allant de 1 à 3 moles. L'invention concerne aussi un dispositif à remplissage capillaire doté d'une électrode de garde placée entre les électrodes de référence et de fonctionnement.
