Methods and apparatus for folding pliable sheet material wherein the sheet material is wound on a mandrel (13) to form a roll which subsequently is stripped off the mandrel and transferred to a pleating station (2) at which successive creases are formed in the roll to produce a pleated packet. During the winding of the sheet material the latter is adhered to the mandrel by the application of negative air pressure to the material via the mandrel. Following the formation of the roll, the application of negative air pressure is discontinued and positive air pressure is applied to the interior of the roll so as to facilitate stripping of the roll from the mandrel.
L'invention concerne des procédés et un appareil permettant de plier un matériau en feuille pliable. Le matériau en feuille est enroulé sur un mandrin (13) pour former un rouleau qui est ensuite retiré du mandrin et transféré vers une station de plissage (2) au niveau de laquelle des plis successifs sont formés dans le rouleau afin de produire un paquet plissé. Durant l'enroulement du matériau en feuille, on fait adhérer ce dernier au mandrin par application d'une pression d'air négative au matériau par l'intermédiaire du mandrin. Après la formation du rouleau, l'application de la pression d'air négative est interrompue et une pression d'air positive est appliquée à l'intérieur du rouleau de façon à faciliter le retrait du rouleau du mandrin.
