In one aspect of the invention, a thermite containing apparatus (160) is run into the wellbore (105) on a wire line and a window is subsequently formed in casing wall. In another aspect of the invention, the apparatus includes a run- in string or drill stem (110) with a drill bit (120) attached to a lower end thereof. A diverter (130), like a whipstock is attached temporarily to the drill bit with a mechanically shearable connection (132). At a lower end of the whipstock, a container (160) is formed and connected thereto. A telescopic joint (200) extends between the bottom of the container and an anchor (280) therebelow. The assembly allow to form a window and drill a lateral in a single trip.
L'invention concerne des procédés et un appareil destinés à former une ouverture ou fenêtre dans un tubulaire de puits pour la formation ultérieure d'un puits de forage latéral. Dans un mode de réalisation, un appareil contenant de la thermite est introduit dans le puits de forage sur un câble métallique, et une fenêtre est ensuite formée dans la paroi du gainage. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, l'appareil comprend une rame d'entraînement ou tige de forage à une extrémité inférieure de laquelle est fixée un trépan. Un déflecteur, tel qu'un biseau de déflexion, est temporairement fixé au trépan au moyen d'un raccord à cisaillement mécanique. Un récipient est formé et rattaché à l'extrémité inférieure du biseau de déflexion. Le récipient est conçu pour loger une quantité prédéterminée de matière exothermique d'un côté adjacent à la partie du gainage où sera formée la fenêtre ou l'ouverture. Un joint télescopique s'étend entre le bas du récipient et une ancre située au-dessous de ce dernier, le joint étant en position allongée lorque l'appareil est introduit dans le puits de forage. Lors de l'utilisation, la matière exothermique, telle que la thermite, est allumée et la fenêtre est formée dans le gainage. Le joint télescopique est alors déplacé vers une seconde position, ce qui place le biseau de déflexion de manière adjacente à la fenêtre de gainage nouvellement formée.
