A light source for illuminating an area includes a cold cathode light source (82), and input and an output, and a converter (78) coupled to the light source. The converter changes the current from an input alternating current supply to a lamp alternating current supply suitable for operating the lamp, for example from utility line voltage and current and changing it to an oscillating direct current supply. A display case such as a refrigeration unit may include an alternating current supply and a light source for illuminating an area within the display case. A current converter is coupled between the alternating current supply and the light source for changing the current from the supply at one voltage and frequency to a second voltage and a second frequency. In one preferred form, the light source is a cold cathode lamp at about 8500 Kelvin to include more blue light.
L'invention porte: sur une source (82) d'éclairage à cathode froide munie d'une entrée et d'une sortie, et sur un convertisseur (78) y étant connecté. Ledit convertisseur transforme le courant alternatif d'entrée en un courant alternatif convenant à l'alimentation de la lampe, par exemple le courant du secteur en courant continu oscillant; sur un présentoir par exemple réfrigéré pouvant comporter une alimentation en courant alternatif et une source lumineuse éclairant une partie du présentoir; et sur un convertisseur relié à l'alimentation en courant alternatif et à la source lumineuse transformant la tension et la fréquence de l'alimentation en courant alternatif en une deuxième tension et en une deuxième fréquence.
