A snubbing assembly (or push/pull assembly) is disclosed which attaches to a rotating control device during underbalanced drilling operations and fits below and/or through the rig floor/rotary table of the drilling rig, allowing normal above floor operation to continue undisturbed. The assembly consists of a stationary base which is attached to or integral to the rotating control device. At least one stationary pipe-gripping device is attached to or integral to this base and is axially aligned with the rotating control device. The apparatus also consists of a traveling assembly described by a traveling plate and at least one pipe- gripping device, axially aligned with the stationary pipe-gripping device, which may or may not be integral to the traveling plate. The traveling plate is moved toward and away from the base assembly by power cylinders, screw jacks or other linear motion devices, attached to or integral to the base assembly and the lower pipe-gripping device, allowing pipe and/or tools to be forced into a live well bore.
