ABSTRACT: METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR RAPIDLY DETERMINING PARAMETERS OF A SAMPLE MEDIUM: Light of a determinate wavelength is directed towards a luminescent layer which directly or indirectly comes into contact with the sample medium, and whose luminescent properties are dependent upon the parameter which is to be determined. The luminescent light is determined via detectors, the signals of which represent a gauge of the parameter. In order to facilitate a reliable determination of a parameter with an extremely short adjustment time, even when several parameters exist which influence the luminescent properties, it is provided that the luminescent intensity be determined for different wavelength ranges corresponding to the number of parameters, where the parameters exert a different influence upon the luminescent properties in at least one wavelength range. The signals obtained are fed to a signal-processing device (26) which deter- mine the value of the parameter to be measured from these signals. FIGURE 1
