A coal-fired power plant (10) is provided. The coal-fired power plant (10) includes a coal combustion zone (22) configured to generate a flue gas (50) flow that includes at least carbon-containing fly ash and mercury, a duct coupled to the combustion zone for channeling the flue gas flow therethrough, a particulate control device (60) coupled to the duct, the particulate control device is configured to collect mercury from the flue gas flow, and a vane assembly coupled within the duct, the vane assembly extends at least partially through the flue gas flow.
