A packet communications system provides for point-to-point packet routing and broadcast packet routing to limited subsets of nodes in the network, using a routing field in the packet header which is processed according to two different protocols. A third protocol is provided in which a packet can be broadcast to the limited subset even when launched from a node which is not a member of the subset. The routing field includes a first portion which contains the route labels necessary to deliver the packet to the broadcast subset. A second portion of the routing field contains the broadcast subset identifier which can then be used to deliver the packet to all of the members of the broadcast subset. Provision is made to backtrack deliver the packet to the last node identified before the broadcast subset if that last node is itself a member of the subset.
L'invention porte sur un système de transmission de paquets dans lequel l'acheminement des paquets est établi d'un point à un autre et l'acheminement des paquets à diffuser est limité à certains sous-ensembles de noeuds dans le réseau; ce système utilise un champ d'acheminement incorporé à l'en-tête du paquet qui est traité selon deux protocoles différents. Un troisième protocole dans lequel un paquet peut être diffusé dans le sous-ensemble limité même quand il est lancé à partir d'un noeud qui ne fait pas partie de ce sous-ensemble est également utilisé. Le champ d'acheminement comprend une première partie qui contient les étiquettes d'acheminement nécessaires pour transmettre le paquet au sous-ensemble de diffusion. Une seconde partie du champ d'acheminement contient l'identificateur du sous-ensemble de diffusion qui peut être utilisé pour transmettre le paquet à tous les membres du sous-ensemble de diffusion. Une possibilité de renvoi du paquet au dernier noeud identifié en amont du sous-ensemble de diffusion si ce dernier noeud fait partie du sous-ensemble est offerte.
