A television program is transmitted on a first channel and enhancements to the program are broadcast on a second channel. The first channel comprises a video servicechannel. The second channel may comprise an out-of-bounds (OOB) channel, a non-servicechannel, or a non-utilized service channel. Enhancements may be extracted from videoinformation containing program content and enhancements. Channel, timing, and control information may be combined with enhancements prior to transmission. Combination may conform to extensions to the Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF) specification. A receiver may store part of the enhancements and may render enhancements inresponse to channel, timing, or control information. Enhancements may be compressed priorto transmission. A receiver may compress enhancements. A receiver may comprise an adjustable tuner operable to receive the second channel. Adjustment of the tuner may be in response to received information or a software program in the receiver.
L'invention concerne la transmission d'un programme de télévision sur un premier canal et la diffusion sur un second canal d'une version de ce programme ayant reçu des améliorations. Le premier canal comprend un canal de service vidéo. Le second canal comprend un canal hors limites, un canal autre que de service, ou un canal de service non utilisé. Différentes améliorations peuvent être extraites du contenu et des améliorations propres au programme d'information vidéo. Il est possible de combiner l'information de canal, de synchronisation et de commande avec les différentes améliorations, avant la transmission. Les modalités de combinaison peuvent être conformes aux extensions de la spécification du Forum des améliorations de télévision (Advanced Television Enhancement Forum (ATVEF)). On peut stocker au niveau d'un récepteur une partie des améliorations, avec possibilité de restitution des améliorations selon l'information de canal, de synchronisation ou de commande. La compression des améliorations avant la transmission est envisageable. Le récepteur peut comprendre un syntoniseur réglable pour la réception des signaux sur le second canal. Le réglage peut être effectué selon l'information reçue ou bien d'après les instructions d'un programme d'ordinateur pilotant le récepteur.
