2079773 9115110 PCTABS00007 In a method of micropropagation, a series of horizontal cuts are made through a mass of fairly straight stemmed plantlets (11) growing from a gelled nutrient medium (12), to obtain cut crop parts (17) containing on average at least one tip or node per cut portion. At each cut, the crop parts (17) are transferred in bulk for example by air-flow or gravity to a fresh gelled nutrient medium (12A), where they are planted by random scattering. In a final stage, harvesting of propagules (56) from plantlets (11) is achieved by combing through the crop with a comb (39), and separating the propagules by producing relative movement of the comb (39) away from the gelled medium (12).
