A coal-fired power plant is provided. The coal-fired power plant includes a combustion zone (24), coal (14) having a fineness of less than 70%<200 mesh and greater than or equal to 50%<200 mesh, combustion gas (40) formed by combusting the coal within the combustion zone, the combustion gas including at least carbon--containing fly ash and mercury, and a duct wherein the mercury reacts with at least the carbon-containing fly ash.
