A rehabilitation apparatus (1000) with at least three degrees of freedom of motion, including a plurality of brak (1014), a motor (1024), wherein the motor is operationally connected to the brakes (1014); a plurality of surfaces, wherein each of t plurality of surfaces, correlates to a brake (1014); and wherein the motor (1024) is activated , the brakes are selectively advanced to make contact with the surfaces, causing friction between the brakes and the surfaces and thus causing variable resistance in the thre degrees of freedom to the apparatus base on the extend of advancement of the brakes.
