Techniques for detecting moving video objects in a compressed digital bitstream (111) and for tools for editing compressed video are disclosed. Video objects (117) are detected and indexed by analyzing a compressed bitstream to locate scene cuts (112), estimating operating parameters for a camera which initially viewed the video (114), and detecting one or more moving video objects represented in the compressed bitstream by applying global motion compensation which account for the estimated operating parameters. Tools are provided for permitting dissolve, masking, freeze frame, slow and variable speed playback, and strobe motion special effects to compressed video. The tools may be implemented in a system for editing (130) compressed video information over a distributed network.
L'invention concerne la détection d'objets vidéo en mouvement dans un train binaire (111) numérique comprimé et des outils d'édition de vidéos comprimées. On détecte et indexe les objets vidéo (117) en analysant un train binaire comprimé afin de repérer des coupures de scène (112), en évaluant des paramètres opérationnels d'une caméra qui a permis une visualisation initiale de la séquence vidéo (114) et en détectant un ou plusieurs objets vidéo en mouvement représentés dans le train binaire comprimé, détection réalisée par l'application d'une correction de mouvement global au moyen de paramètres opérationnels estimés. Les outils permettent de dissoudre, de masquer, de figer l'image, de ralentir et faire varier la vitesse de lecture, et de réaliser des effets stroboscopiques sur la séquence vidéo comprimée. Les outils peuvent être mis en oeuvre par un système d'édition (130) d'informations vidéo comprimées sur un réseau réparti.
