Abstract Certain Mannich reaction products (i.e., alkylated phenol, polyoxyalkylenediamine, and an aldehyde) are used to deactivate iron species already present in hydrocarbon fluids. Left untreated, such iron species lead to decomposition resulting in the formation of gummy, polymer masses in the hydrocarbon liquid.
