The present invention provides methods for the identification of agents, e.g., therapeutic agents, that inhibit Fatty Acid Transport 5 (FATP5) activity, and methods of treating diseases or conditions associated with FATP5 function, e.g., obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, and cardiovascular disease. Further aspects of the invention provide a transgenic FATP5 non-human knockout mammal, e.g., mouse, useful for elucidating the function of FATP5 in intact animals whose genomes comprise a wild-type FATP5 gene.
L'invention concerne des méthodes permettant d'identifier des agents, p. ex. des agents thérapeutiques, qui inhibent l'activité de la protéine de transport des acides gras 5 (FATP5), et des méthodes permettant de traiter des maladies ou des états liés à la fonction de la protéine FATP5, p. ex. l'obésité, la résistance insulinique, le diabète de type 2, la dyslipidémie, la stéatose hépatique, et les maladies cardiovasculaires. D'autres aspects de cette invention concernent un mammifère transgénique knock-out privé de FATP5, p. ex. une souris, permettant d'élucider la fonction de FATP5 chez les animaux intacts dont le génome contient un gène FATP5 de type sauvage.
