The present invention relates to a method and compositions to inhibit bacteria from adhering to a submergible surface. The method contacts the submergible surface with an effective amount of at least one fluorosurfactant to inhibit bacterial adhesion to the submergible surface. The present invention also relates to a method for controlling biofouling of an aqueous system. This method adds an effective amount of at least one fluorosurfactant to inhibit bacteria from adhering to a submerged surface within the aqueous system. This method effectively controls biofouling without substantially killing the bacteria fouling organisms. The fluorosurfactant used in the method of the invention is an anionic or nonionic fluorosurfactant selected from: R f CH2CH2SCH2CH2CO2Li, (R f CH2CH2O)P(O)(ONH4)2, (R f CH2CH2O)2P(O)(ONH4), (R f CH2CH2O)P(O)(OH)2, (R f CH2CH2O)2P(O)(OH), R f CH2CH2O(CH2CH2O)x H, R f CH2CH2O(CH2CH2O)y H, R f CH2CH2SO3H, or mixtures thereof. The group R f is F(CF2CF2)3-8, X varies from 2-20, and y varies from 2-20.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour empêcher les bactéries d'adhérer à une surface pouvant être immergée. Le procédé assure la mise en contact de la surface pouvant être immergée avec une quantité efficace d'au moins un fluoro-tensioactif pour empêcher l'adhérence des bactéries à la surface pouvant être immergée. La présente invention traite aussi d'un procédé pour combattre l'encrassement biologique d'un système aqueux. Ce procédé consiste à ajouter une quantité efficace d'au moins un fluoro-tensioactif pour empêcher les bactéries d'adhérer à une surface immergée dans le système aqueux. Ce procédé permet de combattre avec efficacité l'encrassement biologique sans tuer sensiblement les organismes d'encrassement. Le fluoro-tensioactif utilisé dans le procédé selon l'invention est un fluoro-tensioactif anionique ou non anionique sélectionné parmi du RfCH2CH2SCH2CH2CO2Li, (RfCH2CH2O)P(O)(ONH4)2, (RfCH2CH2O)2P(O)(ONH4), (RfCH2CH2O)P(O)(OH)2, (RfCH2CH2O)2P(O)(OH), RfCH2CH2O(CH2CH2O)xH, RfCH2CH2O(CH2CH2O)yH, RfCH2CH2SO3H, ou des mélanges de ces derniers. Le groupe Rf est F(CF2CF2)3-8, x varie de 2 à 20, et y varie de 2 à 20.
