The present invention identifies circulating proteins that are differentially expressed in atherosclerosis. Circulating levels of these proteins, particularly as a panel of proteins, can discriminate patients with acute myocardial infarction from those with stable exertional angina and from those with no history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Such levels can also predict cardiovascular events, determine the effectiveness of therapy, stage disease, and the like. For example, these markers are useful as surrogate biomarkers of clinical events needed for development of vascular specific pharmaceutical agents.
La présente invention permet d'identifier des protéines circulantes exprimées de manière différentielle dans l'athérosclérose. Les niveaux de circulation de ces protéines, notamment sous la forme d'un panel de protéines, permettent de distinguer les patients qui présentent un infarctus du myocarde aigu de ceux qui présentent une angine d'effort stable et de ceux qui ne présentent pas d'historique de maladie cardiovasculaire athéroscléreuse. Ces niveaux permettent également de prédire des événements cardiovasculaires, de déterminer l'efficacité d'un traitement, de déterminer le stade d'une maladie, etc. Par exemple, ces marqueurs sont utiles comme biomarqueurs de substitution d'événements cliniques nécessaires pour la mise au point d'agents pharmaceutiques vasculaires spécifiques.
