The invention provides methods of finishing a hot water soluble or dispersible material comprising the steps of generating a foam comprised of a finishing composition and air, applying the foamed finishing composition to a hot water soluble or dispersible material, drying the material, and curing the finishing composition, wherein the material is hot water soluble or dispersible after the finishing composition is cured onto the surface of the material. The invention further provides a method of finishing a hot water soluble or dispersible material with a finishing composition wherein the finishing composition comprises a perflourinated polymer, a paraffin wax, a hydrophilic melamine resin, a polyvinyl alcohol binder and a foaming agent. Still further, the invention provides compositions for finishing hot water soluble or dispersible materials. In a further aspect, the invention provides articles comprising a hot water soluble or dispersible material and a finishing composition.
