A method is provided for genetically modifying primate bone marrow cells, comprising isolating bone marrow cells from a primate and, by means of cocultivation, exposing the isolated bone marrow cells to cells that produce a recombinant amphotropic retrovirus with a genome based on a retroviral vector that contains the genetic information to be introduced into the bone marrow cells. Recombinant amphotropic retrovirus-producing cells, suitable for use in this method also are provided, as genetically modified primate bone marrow cells with the capacity for regeneration in vivo.

Ce procédé, destiné à modifier génétiquement des cellules médullaires de primate, consiste à isoler des cellules médullaires à partir d'un primate et, au moyen d'une coculture, à exposer ces cellules médullaires isolées à des cellules produisant un rétrovirus amphotrope recombiné possédant un génome basé sur un vecteur rétroviral qui contient l'information génétique à introduire dans les cellules médullaires. L'invention concerne également des cellules produisant le rétrovirus amphotrope recombiné, conçues pour être utilisées dans le procédé ci-dessus, de même que des cellules médullaires de primate, modifiées génétiquement et présentant une capacité de régénération in vivo.
