The invention provides methods and compositions for producing plants with fruit having increased post-harvest storage life, the method comprising reducing the expression or activity in the plant, of a polypeptide with the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1(Malus domestica polygalaturonase, MdPG1), or a variant of the polypeptide. The invention provides host cells, plant cells and plants transformed with the polynucleotides of the invention. The invention also provides methods for selecting plants with fruit having increased postharvest storage life. The invention also provides plants produced and selected by the methods of the invention.

La présente invention concerne des procédés et des compositions destinés à produire des végétaux dont les fruits présente une durée de stockage post-récolte accrue. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste à réduire l'expression ou l'activité, dans ledit végétal, d'un polypeptide ayant la séquence d'acides aminés de la SEQ ID NO : 1 (Malus domestica polygalaturonase, MdPG1), ou d'un variant dudit polypeptide. L'invention concerne des cellules hôtes, des cellules végétales et des végétaux transformés à l'aide des polynucléotides selon l'invention. L'invention concerne également des procédés pour sélectionner des végétaux dont les fruits présente une durée de stockage post-récolte accrue. L'invention concerne également des végétaux produits et sélectionnés par les procédés de l'invention.
