Methods and compositions for modulating mucin secretion by respiratory system cells are provided. In the subject methods, an effective amount at an hCLCA2 (or homolog thereof) modulatory agent is contacted with the cell to modulate mucin secretion, e.g., decrease or increase mucin secretion, by the cell. The subject methods find use in a variety of different applications, including the treatment of disease conditions associated with respiratory system mucin secretion, e.g., mucin hyper- or hyposecretion. Also provided are methods of screening for respiratory system mucin secretion modulatory agents. Finally, mCLCA4 and non-human homologs thereof, as well as nucleic acid compositions encoding the same, are provided.
L'invention concerne des méthodes et des compositions permettant de moduler les sécrétions de mucine par des cellules du système respiratoire. Selon les méthodes de cette invention, une quantité efficace d'un agent modulateur hCLCA2 (ou d'un homologue correspondant) est mise en contact avec la cellule, afin de moduler la sécrétion de mucine, par exemple, de diminuer ou d'augmenter la sécrétion de mucine par la cellule. On peut utiliser ces méthodes dans une variété d'applications différentes, notamment dans le traitement de troubles liés à la sécrétion de mucine du système respiratoire, par exemple en cas de sécrétions trop importantes ou insuffisantes. Ladite invention concerne également des méthodes de criblage des agents modulateurs de la sécrétion de mucine du système respiratoire, des homologues mCLCA4 et non humains correspondants, ainsi que des compositions d'acides nucléiques codant ceux-ci.
