The invention discloses that members of a subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases comprising TYRO3, Axl, cMer and ligands thereof, such as GAS6 are suitable targets for the development of new therapeutics to treat, prevent or ameliorate OA. The invention also relates to methods to treat and/or ameliorate OA and pharmaceutical compositions therefor comprising modulators with inhibitory effect on the expression or activity of members of this subfamily of receptor tyrosine and related ligands. The invention also relates to a method to identify compounds with therapeutic usefulness to treat OA, comprising identifying compounds that can, e.g., inhibit activity and/or expression of these polypeptides.

Cette invention établit que des membres d'un genre de récepteurs tyrosine kinases qui comprend TYRO3, Axl, cMer et des ligands de ceux-ci, tels que GAS6, constituent des cibles appropriées pour le développement de nouveaux agents thérapeutiques visant à traiter, prévenir ou améliorer l'ostéoarthrite. Cette invention concerne également des méthodes de traitement et/ou d'amélioration de l'ostéoarthrite ainsi que des compositions pharmaceutiques servant à traiter et/ou à améliorer l'ostéoarthrite renfermant des modulateurs présentant un effet d'inhibition sur l'expression ou l'activité de membres de ce genre de récepteurs tyrosine et des ligands associés. Cette invention concerne en outre une méthode permettant d'identifier des composés présentant une utilité thérapeutique dans le traitement de l'ostéoarthrite, laquelle méthode consiste à identifier des composés qui peuvent notamment inhiber l'activité et/ou l'expression de ces polypeptides.
