Siliceous materials are prepared by adding one or more additives, including water soluble polymers, and derivatives thereof, to sols containing tetraalkoxysilanes derived from polyols. The polymers facilitate phase separation of the growing silica gel matrix, leading to high surface area self- supporting silica gels with cure occurring at ambient temperatures. The materials also show a significant reduction in shrinkage properties.
L'invention concerne des matériaux silicieux préparés par ajout d'un ou plusieurs additifs, notamment des polymères solubles dans l'eau, et des dérivés de ceux-ci, dans des sols contenant des tétra-alcoxysilanes dérivés de polyols. Les polymères facilitent la séparation de phase de la matrice de gel de silice de croissance, permettant d'obtenir des gels de silice autostables à surface élevée durcissant à température ambiante. Ces matériaux voient également leurs propriétés de rétrécissement significativement réduites.
