Methods, and devices are provided for at least reducing the mineral content of a vascular calcified lesion (14), i.e. a calcified lesion (14) present on the vascular tissue (12) of a host. In the subject methods, the local environment of the lesion (14) is maintained at a sub-physiologic pH for a period of time sufficient for the mineral content of the lesion to be reduced, e.g. by flushing the lesion (14) with a fluid capable of locally increasing the proton concentration in the region of the lesion (14). Also provided are systems and kits for practicing the subject methods. The subject methods, and devices find particular use in the treatment of vascular diseases associated with the presence of calcified lesions (14) an vascular tissue (12).

L'invention porte sur des procédés et des dispositifs qui permettent au moins de réduire la teneur en minéraux de lésions vasculaires calcifiées (14) présentes dans le tissu vasculaire (12) d'un hôte. Selon lesdits procédés, l'environnement immédiat de la lésion est maintenu à un pH sous-physiologique pendant une durée suffisante pour réduire la teneur en minéraux de la lésion, cela, par rinçage de la lésion (14) avec un fluide pouvant augmenter localement la concentration de proton dans la région de la lésion (14). L'invention porte également sur des systèmes et des trousses permettant de mettre en oeuvre lesdits procédés. Ces procédés et dispositifs trouvent une application particulière dans le traitement de maladies vasculaires associées à la présence de lésions calcifiées (14) du tissu vasculaire (12).
