An implantable tissue retractor for treatment of a breathing disorder and related methods. The implantable tissue retractor comprises a shaft sized for insertion into a soft tissue located in a patient's oral cavity or pharynx. The implantable tissue retractor also comprises a retractor member at or near a first end of the shaft. The implantable tissue retractor also comprises a removable coupler connected at or near a second end of the shaft. At least one of a portion of the shaft or the retractor member is positionable on a surface of the soft tissue. At least one of the shaft, retractor member, or removable coupler is adjustable to vary a force to prevent a deformation of at least a portion of the soft tissue to prevent obstruction of the patient's airway.
La présente invention concerne un écarteur tissulaire implantable destiné au traitement d'un désordre respiratoire, ainsi que des méthodes associées. Cet écarteur tissulaire implantable comprend un corps d'une taille telle à pouvoir être introduit dans un tissu mou situé dans la cavité buccale ou le pharynx d'un patient. Ledit écarteur tissulaire implantable comprend également un élément écarteur au niveau d'une première extrémité dudit corps ou à proximité. L'écarteur tissulaire implantable comprend également un élément de couplage amovible relié à la seconde extrémité du corps ou à proximité de celle-ci. Au moins soit une partie du corps, soit l'élément écarteur peut être disposé à la surface du tissu mou. Au moins soit le corps, soit l'élément écarteur, soit l'élément de couplage amovible est réglable, ce qui permet de faire varier la force s'opposant à la déformation d'au moins une partie du tissu mou et de prévenir l'obstruction du conduit aérien du patient.
