ABSTRACT A method of determining a parameter related to reflection in a transmission line said method consisting in repeatedly transmitting into said line a digital word which is a predetermined number of digital bits in length; receiving said words after reflection back from the point of reflection; repeatedly producing similar digital words, each of the aforesaid number of bits in length; delaying said similar words by a series of steps of time delay, each step occuring after a predetermined number of repetitions of said similar words; and utilising the occurrence of correlation between received reflected words and delayed similar words to determine the said parameter.
