Abstract Improved Methods and Media for Enhanced Somatic Embryogenesis Methods and media are provided to improve the quantity and quality of the embryos obtained by induction of somatic plant tissue. Media provide for the addition of an amount of selected amino acids sufficient to increase the number of somatic embryos generated. The invention further provides for such media including sources of ammonium ion and methods for the culturing of plant somatic tissue.
