The system (100) includes a warning device (102) configured to determine when a vehicle is within a predetermined distance to a warning area (402), a signaling system (104) that is activated when the vehicle is within the predetermined distance, the signaling system configured to: determine a speed of approach of the vehicle to the warning area, determine an initiation point to activate the vehicle warning based on the speed of approach of the vehicle, and sound the vehicle warning at the initiation point.
