The present invention provides ophthalmic methods and apparatus for low-level light therapy of various eye diseases connected with accommodative dysfunctions and functional disorders of parts of the visual system from and including the retina to the brain. One of the treatment methods of the present invention provides a healing influence with a laser speckle pattern or regular interference pattern applied to the visual system resulting in, for example, visual acuity enhancement in the case of functional amblyopia. Another treatment method provides both a functional influence by the application of a laser speckle pattern onto the visual system and the transscleral biostimulation of eye tissues by means of infrared irradiation of one or more areas of the eye sclera. The infrared biostimulation of eye tissues results in the improvement of eye muscle capability and enhances eye blood circulation. The present invention provides further an ophthalmic therapy system and ophthalmic binocular units for use with the above therapy method. 40
