A computer system for permitting user interaction with a three-dimensional computer model defines an initial correspondence between the computer model and a real world workspace. An editing volume of the workspace is also defined, and a stereoscopic image of the section of the computer model within the editing volume is displayed. Using a first input device a user can translate and/or rotate the model, and rotate the editing volume, so as to bring different portions of the model into the editing volume, and thus into the user's view. The user operates a second input device to indicate changes to be made to the model. The first and second input devices can be operated with the user's respective hands. Since only the portion of the model within the editing volume need be displayed, the processing and display requirements are reduced, in comparison to displaying the entire model.
L'invention concerne un système informatique permettant à un utilisateur d'interagir avec un modèle informatique tridimensionnel. Le système informatique définit une correspondance initiale entre le modèle informatique et un espace de travail réel. Un volume de montage est également défini dans l'espace de travail, et une image stéréoscopique de la section du modèle informatique située dans le volume de montage est présentée. Un premier dispositif d'entrée peut être utilisé par un utilisateur pour translater et/ou imprimer une rotation au modèle, ainsi que pour imprimer une rotation au volume de montage de façon à déplacer différentes parties du modèle dans le volume de montage afin de les exposer à la vue de l'utilisateur. L'utilisateur met en oeuvre un second dispositif d'entrée pour indiquer des modifications à apporter au modèle. Le premier et le second dispositifs d'entrée peuvent être manipulés avec les mains respectives de l'utilisateur. Puisqu'une seule partie du modèle dans le volume de montage doit être présentée, les critères de traitement et d'affichage sont réduits par comparaison avec l'affichage du modèle entier.
