A reliable method for inter-computer packet transport in multi-process and multicomputer environments includes acknowledgments of received packets. To enhance the reliability and fast recovery of lost packets, a bit-mapped message is used for selective acknowledgments by which individual messages may be selected for retransmission. Further functionalities cover the cases where packets may have been received out-of-order, or an acknowledgment was lost.

L'invention concerne un procédé fiable de transport de paquets entre ordinateurs dans des environnements multi-processus et multi-ordinateurs, comportant des acquittements de paquets reçus. Pour améliorer la fiabilité et la récupération rapide de paquets perdus, un message en mode point est utilisé pour des acquittements sélectifs au moyen desquels il est possible de sélectionner des messages individuels pour une retransmission. D'autres fonctionnalités concernent les cas dans lesquels des paquets peuvent avoir été reçus dans le désordre ou dans le cas où un acquittement a été perdu.
