A security screening system to determine if an item of luggage carries an object posing a security threat is provided. The security screening system comprises an input for receiving image data derived from an apparatus that subjects the item of luggage to penetrating radiation, the image data conveying an image of the item of luggage. The security screening system also comprises a processing module for processing the image data to identify in the image a plurality of regions of interest, the regions of interest manifesting a higher probability of depicting an object posing a security threat than portions of the image outside the regions of interest. The processing module processes a first one of the regions of interest to ascertain if the first region of interest depicts an object posing a security threat; and processes a second one of the regions of interest to ascertain if the second region of interest depicts an object posing a security threat. The processing of the first and second regions of interest occurs in parallel. Different sets of entries in a reference database may also be processed in parallel to determine if an item of luggage carries an object posing a security threat.
L'invention concerne un système de filtrage de sécurité pour déterminer si un article de bagage transporte un objet présentant une menace pour la sécurité. Le système de filtrage de sécurité peut comprendre une entrée pour recevoir des données d'image déduites d'un appareil qui soumet l'article de bagage à un rayonnement pénétrant, les données d'image transmettant une image de l'article de bagage. Le système de filtrage de sécurité peut également comprendre un module de traitement pour traiter les données d'image pour identifier dans l'image une pluralité de régions d'intérêt, les régions d'intérêt manifestant une probabilité plus élevée de représenter un objet présentant une menace pour la sécurité que des parties de l'image à l'extérieur des régions d'intérêt. Le module de traitement peut comprendre : une première entité de traitement pour traiter une des premières régions d'intérêt pour évaluer si la première région d'intérêt représente un objet présentant une menace pour la sécurité; et une seconde entité de traitement pour traiter une des secondes régions d'intérêt pour évaluer si la seconde région d'intérêt représente un objet présentant une menace pour la sécurité. Le traitement des première et seconde régions d'intérêt par les première et seconde entités de traitement se produit en parallèle. Différentes entités de traitement peuvent également être utilisées pour traiter en parallèle différents ensembles d'entrée d'une base de données de référence pour déterminer si un article de bagage transporte un objet présentant une menace pour la sécurité.
