This invention teaches further method improvements to forewarn of critical events via phase-space dissimilarity analysis of data from biomedical equipment, mechanical devices, and other physical processes. One improvement involves conversion of time-serial data into equiprobable symbols. A second improvement is a method to maximize the channel-consistent total-true rate of forewarning from a plurality of data channels over multiple data sets from the same patient or process. This total-true rate requires resolution of the forewarning indications into true positives (TP), true negatives (TN), false positives (FP) and false negatives (FN) relative to a forewarning window 20. A third improvement is the use of various objective functions, as derived from the phase-space dissimilarity measures, to give the best forewarning indication. A fourth improvement uses various search strategies over the phase~space analysis parameters to maximize said objective functions. A fifth improvement shows the usefulness of the method for various biomedical and machine applications.

La pr~sente invention concerne des am~liorations apport~es aux proc~d~s d'anticipation des ~v~nements critiques, et ce, par analyse des dissemblances d'espace de phase affectant les donn~es en provenance du mat~riel biom~dical, des ~quipements m~caniques, et d'une fa×on g~n~rale, des processus physiques. Une premi­re am~lioration fait intervenir une conversion de donn~es de s~ries chronologiques en symboles ~quiprobables. Une deuxi­me am~lioration est fournie par un proc~d~ visant ~ maximiser le coefficient d'anticipation total vrai coh~rent ~ travers les canaux en provenance d'une pluralit~ de canaux num~rique sur plusieurs ensembles de donn~es provenant du mÚme patient ou processus. Ce coefficient total vrai n~cessite de r~soudre les indications d'anticipation en positifs vrais (TP), n~gatifs vrais (TN), positifs faux (FP) et n~gatifs faux (FN) par rapport ~ une fenÚtre d'anticipation 20. Une troisi­me am~lioration consiste ~ rechercher la meilleure indication d'anticipation par l'utilisation de diverses fonctions objectives, telles qu'elles d~coulent des mesures de dissemblances d'espace de phase. Une quatri­me am~lioration r~side en la mise en oeuvre de diverses strat~gies de recherche parmi les param­tres de l'analyse d'espace de phase de fa×on ~ maximiser les fonctions objectives consid~r~es. Enfin, une cinqui­me am~lioration fait la preuve de l'utilit~ du proc~d~ pour diverses applications biom~dicales et m~caniques.
