A call in progress in a first communication network is handed over to a second communication network which uses a different air interface. To facilitate the handover, the present serving base station commands the mobile communication device to take measurements of surrounding cells of the second communication network. The measurements are sent along with a handover request from the serving base station to a radio network controller of the second network, which decides upon a cell to which the cal will be handed. A grant message including an identifier to be used by the mobile communication device and an identifier of the base station receiving the handover is transmitted back to the first network, and used by the mobile communication device in handing over the call.

Un appel en cours de progression dans un premier réseau de communication est transféré vers un second réseau de communication qui utilise une interface radio différente. Pour faciliter le transfert, la présente station de base de desserte ordonne au dispositif de communication mobile de prendre des mesures des cellules environnantes du second réseau de communication. Les mesures sont envoyées conjointement avec une demande de transfert de la station de base de desserte à une unité de commande de réseau radio du second réseau, qui décide de l'identité d'une cellule à laquelle l'appel sera transféré. Un message d'accord comprenant un identificateur à utiliser par le dispositif de communication mobile et un identificateur de la station de base recevant le transfert est retransmis au premier réseau, et utilisé par le dispositif de communication sans fil dans le transfert de l'appel.
