The present invention relates to methods for the use of the Arabidopsis "BREVIPEDICELLUS" (BP) gene for alteration of plant architecture, in particular alteration of the morphology of the inflorescence of a flowering plant. The methods of the present invention provide a means to alter the development of the peduncle, notably the inflorescence branches, and the pedicels that subtend the individual flowers as well as aspects of flower structure such as the style, and subsequent seed pods, of a flowering plant. The invention also relates to methods to identify and isolate polynucleotides encoding genes with BP-related functions from other plant species and methods for utilizing said polynucleotides to alter the inflorescence of said plant species. Furthermore, the invention encompasses transgenic plants generated by the methods disclosed, and nucleotide sequences for use in generating the transgenic plants.
La présente invention concerne des procédés permettant d'utiliser le gène Arabidopsis "BREVIPEDICELLUS" (BP) pour modifier l'architecture d'une plante, en particulier, pour modifier la morphologie de l'inflorescence d'une plante à fleurs. Les procédés décrits dans cette invention consistent à utiliser un moyen qui permet de modifier le développement du pédoncule, plus particulièrement, les branches de l'inflorescence, et les pédicelles qui sous-tendent chacune des fleurs, ainsi que des aspects de la structure florale, telle que le style, et les graines, d'une plante à fleurs. L'invention concerne également des procédés permettant d'identifier et d'isoler des polynucléotides codant pour des gènes présentant des fonctions associées à BP, à partir d'autres espèces végétales, et des procédés permettant d'utiliser lesdits polynucléotides pour modifier l'inflorescence de ces espèces végétales. En outre, l'invention concerne des plantes transgéniques produites selon les procédés susmentionnés, et des séquences nucléotidiques pouvant être utilisées pour produire des plantes transgéniques.
