More precisely, it concerns the ability of hnRNP A1 and its shortened derivative UP1 to alter the length of telomeres in cells. The present invention relates more particularly to methods that modulate the proteolytic conversion of A1 into UP1 as means of decreasing or increasing the proliferative capacity of cells and to precipitate or delay the onset of senescence.
