The invention provides yeast strains, and polypeptides encoded by genes of such yeast strains, that have enantiospecific meso-epoxide hydrolase activity. The invention also features nucleic acid molecules encoding such polypeptides, vectors containing such nucleic acid molecules, and cells containing such vectors. Also embraced by the invention are methods for obtaining optically active vicinal diols from meso-epoxides.

L'invention concerne des souches de levure et des polypeptides codés par des gènes de ces souches de levure, qui ont une activité hydrolase meso-époxyde énantiospécifique. La présente invention porte également sur des molécules d'acide nucléique codant ces polypeptides, sur des vecteurs contenant ces molécules d'acide nucléique et sur des cellules pourvues de ces vecteurs. L'invention concerne aussi des procédés pour obtenir des diols vicinaux optiquement actifs à partir de meso-époxydes.
