The present invention is related to a method for preventing or reducing the effects of ischemia. The ischemia may be associated with injury or reperfusion injury, such as occurs as a result of infarctions, thermal injury (burns), surgical trauma, accidental trauma, hemorrhagic shock and the like. The invention is also related to methods for preventing or reducing bacterial translocation, adult respiratory distress syndrome, adherence of blood cells and platelets to endothelial cells and pulmonary hypertension. In accordance with the present invention, these conditions are prevented or reduced by administering a dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) drivative as defined herein.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé permettant de prévenir ou d'atténuer les conséquences de l'ischémie. Cette dernière peut être associée à une blessure ou à une lésion consécutive à des perfusions répétées, ainsi que cela peut se produire à la suite d'un infarcissement, à des lésions thermiques (brûlures), à un traumatisme chirurgical, à un traumatisme accidentel, à un choc hémorragique et autres troubles analogues. Cette invention se rapporte à des procédés de prévention ou de réduction des translocations bactériennes, de la détresse respiratoire chez l'adulte, de l'adhésion des cellules et des plaquettes sanguines aux cellules endothéliales, et de l'hypertension pulmonaire. Conformément à cette invention, il est possible de prévenir ou d'atténuer ces troubles en administrant au patient un dérivé de déhydroépiandrostérone (DHEA).
