The invention provides a method of reducing CD36 expression in a cell. The method comprises contacting the cell with an effective amount of an aromatic- cationic peptide having at least one net positive charge; a minimum of four amino acids; a maximum of about twenty amino acids; a relationship between the minimum number of net positive charges (pm) and the total number of amino acid residues (r) wherein 3pm is the largest number that is less than or equal to r + 1; and a relationship between the minimum number of aromatic groups (a) and the total number of net positive charges (pt) wherein 2a is the largest number that is less than or equal to pt + 1, except that when a is 1, pt may also be 1.

L'invention concerne une méthode permettant de réduire l'expression de CD36 dans une cellule. Ladite méthode consiste à mettre la cellule en contact avec une quantité efficace de peptide aromatique-cationique comprenant au moins une charge positive nette; un minimum de quatre acides aminés; un maximum d'environ vingt acides aminés; une relation entre le nombre minimum de charges positives nettes (pm) et le nombre total de résidus (r) d'acides aminés, 3pm étant le nombre le plus grand qui est inférieur ou égal à r + 1; et une relation entre le nombre minimum de groupes aromatiques (a) et le nombre total de charges positives nettes (pt), 2a étant le nombre le plus grand qui est inférieur ou égal à pt + 1, sauf lorsque 1 et pt sont également être égaux à 1.
