A method for selection treatment for or treating a patient afflicted with prostate cancer by determining whether the number of copies of HER-2/neu gene in prostate cells from the patient exceeds four by in-situ hybridization and aggressively treating such patient having prostate cells with five or more copies of the HER-2/neu gene. Aggressive treatments include radiation in the range of 60-75 Gy or an anti-HER-2/neu antibody alone or in combination with an anti-androgen.
L'invention concerne une méthode pour choisir un traitement contre le cancer de la prostate ou pour traiter le cancer de la prostate chez un patient. La méthode consiste à déterminer, par hybridation in situ, si le nombre de copies du gène HER-2/neu dans des cellules de la prostate prélevées chez le patient est supérieur à quatre, auquel cas on administre audit patient un traitement agressif faisant intervenir au moins cinq copies du gène HER-2/neu. Des traitements agressifs comprennent un traitement par émission de rayonnement de l'ordre de 60 à 75 Gy ou par anticorps anti-HER-2/neu utilisé seul ou en association avec un anti-androgène.
