A novel process for the manufacture of loratadine together with the novel intermediates obtained during the synthesis of loratadine are described. Loratadine is obtained by intramolecular cyclisation of 4-{3-[2-(2-bromo-5- chlorophenyl)ethyl]-pyridine-2-ylmethylene}piperidine-1-carboxylic acidethyl ester in the presence of a palladium catalyseur and a base.
