The invention relates to methods for the prevention and/or treatment of tinnitus in~duced by cochlear excitotoxicity. In these methods, a pharmaceutical composition com~prising an NMDA receptor antagonist is administered to an individual in need of such treatment by appropriate devices and/or formulations for local administration to the inner ear. The tinnitus to be prevented and/or treated may be provoked by acoustic trauma, presbycusis, ischemia, anoxia, treatment with one or more ototoxic medications, sudden deafness, or other cochlear excitotoxic-inducing occurrence.

L'invention concerne des méthodes de prévention et/ou de traitement de l'acouphène induit par l'excitotoxicité cochléaire. Dans ces procédés, une composition pharmaceutique comprenant un antagoniste du récepteur de NMDA est administré à un sujet nécessitant un tel traitement à l'aide de dispositifs appropriés et/ou de formulations destinées à une administration locale dans l'oreille interne. L'acouphène devant être prévenu et/ou traité peut être provoqué par un traumatisme acoustique, une presbyacousie, une ischémie, une anoxie, un traitement à l'aide d'un ou de plusieurs médicaments ototoxiques, une surdité subite ou d'autres circonstances induites par l'excitotoxicité cochléaire.
