Methods for diagnosis or treatment of a disease or condition in an organism characterized by an abnormal level of interaction between: (a) a BLM domain and its natural binding partner; or (b) an EGF receptor and an EGF ligand is described. The disease or condition may also be characterized by an abnormality in a signal transduction pathway, wherein the pathway contains a protein with a BLM domain or an EGF receptor. The method includes disrupting or promoting that interaction (or signal) in vivo. The method also involves inhibiting the activity of the complexes formed between the individual molecules. Also, a method for screening for an agent useful for treatment of such a disease or condition by assaying potential agents for the ability to disrupt or promote that interaction is described. The invention also features a peptide comprising, consisting or consisting essentially of a BLM domain or EGF receptor domains 1 or 3.
Méthodes de diagnostic ou de traitement d'une maladie ou d'un état dans un organisme caractérisé par un niveau d'interaction anormal entre: (a) un domaine BLM et son partenaire de liaison naturel; ou (b) un récepteur du facteur de croissance de l'épiderme et un ligand dudit facteur. La maladie ou l'état se caractérise également par une anomalie dans une voie de transduction des signaux, ladite voie contenant une protéine à domaine BLM ou un récepteur du facteur de croissance de l'épiderme. La méthode consiste à interrompre ou favoriser cette interaction (ou ce signal) in vivo. Elle consiste également à inhiber l'activité des complexes formés entre les molécules individuelles. De plus, un procédé de criblage d'un agent utile pour le traitement de cette maladie ou de cet état par une recherche des agents potentiels susceptibles d'interrompre ou de favoriser l'interaction est décrit. L'invention se rapporte également à un peptide comprenant, ou consistant principalement en un domaine BLM ou des domaines du récepteur du facteur de croissance de l'épiderme 1 ou 3.
