Training, maintaining proficiency and certifying people in techniques for using non- deadly force in a way that minimizes the chance of bodily injury to an individual being subdued comprises teaching a number of techniques to trainees, wherein the techniques involve applying tactile pressure to nerve locations while applying leverage to the body of an individual in order to subdue the individual. The trainees are then certified as having learned the techniques and are qualified as practitioners of the techniques. The practitioners are recertified periodically in order to maintain proficiency. Since the techniques are non-deadly and minimize risk of bodily injury; police officers, security personnel and their employers are far less likely to be sued if the techniques are employed, which of course lessen the likelihood that excessive force will be used, with all of its unfortunate implications.
